Some silver pieces are meant to carry a name, initials or dates.
A few of the pieces my grandmother passed down to me have her initials on them. Engraving CARMA's pieces felt like the natural thing to do - so I went looking for the steadiest hand and the most patient person I could find.
Engraving, at CARMA, is done entirely by hand, by Valerie Sturris. She's located close to Den Haag. Valerie prints the letters and transfers the inked design onto the silver. Then, with an extremely sharp tool, she traces over the ink by hand, cutting each line into the silver.
A machine repeats itself exactly; a hand never quite does. The small differences are what make the engraving yours. Cut into sterling silver, it stays as long as the piece does - long enough, perhaps, to be passed on again.

Placement
In the special instructions, tell us where you'd like it: top (close to head), middle, or bottom and vertical or horizontal. See the images for instructions.
Letters & numbers
We start names with one uppercase and the rest of the name is lowercase script, unless you ask otherwise. It sits better on a narrow piece, and it's the quieter thing to find in your hand. Initials and dates are traditionally capitals. Dates are cut short: 12.05.24 unless you'd like the full year. Every engraving is confirmed with you by email before our engraver Valerie begins. Engraved pieces are made to order and final sale.
